#189: Steal my end of year ritual

Share Post

We’re approaching the end of the year, and I have a specific end-of-year ritual that I’m sharing with you today. You’re more than welcome to steal this very simple ritual, which will not only help you finish the year with a positive mindset, but will help you in the planning phase for the following year.

Whether this past year was filled with triumphs or challenges, taking some time to reflect and tie up loose ends is crucial. So, let’s dive into my simple and effective end-of-year ritual.

Over the years, I’ve experimented with various approaches to wrap up the year, and I’ve finally discovered an end-of-year ritual that works wonders for me. It’s about closing the door on the current year, celebrating its accomplishments, and embracing the upcoming year with fresh energy and enthusiasm. I highly recommend also taking some time off, enjoying a few cocktails, and maybe even planning a holiday to recharge before diving into the new year!

To Plan, Or Not To Plan

Now, here’s the thing: some people have already done their planning for the new year, and that’s great! I prefer doing my planning in January, when I can harness the energy of the new year. I find it helpful to take a step back, rest, and gain some perspective before jumping into the planning stations. That way, when I return to the office in January, I can reassess my plans and make any necessary adjustments.

End Of Year Ritual Prompts

To really make the most of this process, I recommend finding a comfortable and inspiring space outside of your usual work environment. Whether it’s a park, a cozy café or your favourite corner of your home, choose a place where you can unwind and allow your thoughts to flow freely.

Take These Steps:

1. Celebrate Your Wins: Begin by reflecting on all your wins, big and small. Did someone you admire follow you back on Instagram? Did you write an email that you were incredibly proud of? Celebrate every single achievement.  You’ll be surprised by how much positivity this exercise brings.

2. Embrace the Lessons: Next, think about the lessons you’ve learned throughout the year. Remember, the more failures you experienced, the more lessons you likely gained. These nuggets of wisdom could range from mastering new tools or techniques to navigating difficult conversations or setting healthier boundaries. Note down every lesson, big or small.

3. Recognise your Improvements: Take a moment to appreciate the areas in which you’ve improved or upleveled your business. Did you redesign your website? Implement a faster content creation system. Invest in an online course to acquire new skills or strategies. Celebrate these significant upgrades, even if they overlap with the lessons you’ve learned.

4. Identify Areas for Growth: Consider the aspects of your business or skills that you’d like to improve in the coming year. Maybe you’ve realised that certain systems or processes aren’t working efficiently or that you need additional support from a team. Take note of the areas you want to focus on and enhance in the next 12 months.

5. Set Three Meaningful Goals: Lastly, envision three goals—ambitious and exciting—that you want to accomplish in the new year. These goals don’t have to be solely business-oriented; they can encompass personal aspirations too. Picture yourself, one year from now, looking back at these goals with a sense of fulfilment and pride. Choose goals that excite you and feel within reach, while still pushing your limits.

End Of Year Rituals Support Your Planning Phase

Once you’ve written everything down, take a deep breath, read over your notes, and make any necessary refinements. Consider this draft as the foundation for your future planning endeavours. Finally, close your laptop, shut your notebook, or mark your document as complete. It’s time for a well-deserved break! Allow yourself to relax and disconnect until the holidays are over. Return in the new year with renewed enthusiasm and passion.
