#213 – Change this to thrive in 2024

Share Post

Have you noticed a shift in the online course industry? You’re not alone. Many creators are experiencing the effects of market maturation and I’m here to discuss this with you today.

It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since I launched my current business, Hello Funnels. Reflecting on this milestone made me realise how similiar this journey has been compared to my first foray online – a blog I started years ago.

Although my current business, and my blogging business were very different both have succumbed to the effects of market maturation, as most businesses do. But I think people often forget that maturation is necessary for the ultimate success that those who stick it out can achieve.

My Blogging Journey

My blog, like many others, thrived during the early days of blogging. It was a passionate and collaborative space, with a focus on building a community and sharing knowledge. Market saturation, however, was inevitable. As the market matured, competition skyrocketed. Higher-quality content became the norm, and established media entering the online space made it tougher to stand out amongst the crowd.

The Evolving World of Online Courses

The online course industry, which I’m now a part of, is experiencing a similar phenomenon. Remember those early days when online courses seemed like a gold rush? There were low barriers to entry, and creating courses was a fantastic way to share your expertise and make money. However, with more and more people entering the field, the market is becoming increasingly competitive.

Learners now expect top-notch production quality, in-depth content, and a clear value proposition. But here’s the good news: market maturation doesn’t have to spell doom and gloom for course creators. Here are some key takeaways I’ve learned to navigate this evolving market:

  • Find Your Niche and Own It: Don’t be a jack-of-all-trades. Identify what makes your courses unique and become the absolute best resource in your specific niche.
  • Show Up and Connect with Your Audience: People connect with people, not brands. Build genuine relationships with your audience by consistently showing up, providing valuable content beyond your courses, and fostering a sense of community.
  • Offer More Frequently: Ditch the huge quarterly course launches (thank goodness). Embrace an evergreen launching strategy with smaller, more frequent course offerings. This allows learners to engage with you at their convenience and you don’t have to be so stressed planning a huge launch.

Adapting to Market Maturation: The Key to Success

By understanding market maturation and implementing these takeaways, course creators can position themselves for long-term success. Remember, the most successful creators will be those who can differentiate themselves, connect with their audience on a deeper level, and consistently deliver high-quality courses.
