#128: The 5 Minute End Of Year Review

End of year reviews are in the air! But they’re usually pretty complicated and time consuming, right? Which is why we’re bringing you a super simple (but powerful) exercise to help you find what’s working in your biz, what isn’t working & where to focus in the year ahead…

This week on the podcast I’m sharing a crazy-powerful end of year exercise to help you pinpoint exactly what you need to be focusing on in 2023…

And the best part? It only takes 5 minutes. 

Because let’s be honest, at the end of the year, who’s got the energy for more than that?

We don’t want complicated or time-consuming right now, but we do want to be able to reflect on the past year, so we can make some great decisions for the new year ahead. 

Which is why we’ve done what we do best and broken the whole ‘end of year review thing’ down, made it easy and something that can be done in just a few minutes. 

Plus, we’ve even created a super simple worksheet so you don’t even need to do anything but fill it out!

Great, now let’s get into it…

Your End Of Year Review… 

The first step (after you’ve got your worksheet ready to go) is to go get yourself a glass of wine, of coffee, tea or fancy water – whatever blows your hair back.

And now, you’ll see when you open your worksheet, there’s not a lot going on. We promised you simple and that’s what you’ll get. 

We didn’t want to give you a massive list of things to work through. 

The whole point of this exercise is just to make it abundantly clear what IS working in your business, and what is only kind of working, and what you need to cut out completely.

From there, you’ll know where you need to focus for 2023.

How To Use The Worksheet…

To do your 5min end of year review, we’re using our traffic light system. 

I walk you through it in greater detail in the episode, so if you want more of a walkthrough of the exercise, make sure you listen to that. 

But here’s the basics:

1. On the first row, fill out all of your individual offers, one for each numbered column. This includes your signature offers, or if you have any self-liquidating offers, premium offers or paid live trainings etc. 

2. Then on the next row, do the same for all of your opt-ins. Any freebie or lead magnet you have had active this year goes into this row. 

3. Add any of your active platforms in the next row. For example,Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, your email list etc. 

Note: (If you are using both paid and organic platforms include both as separate columns here. Eg: Instagram Organic, Instagram Paid.)

4. Finally, add any of your promotions into the last row. This includes any launches or promotions you’ve run. Any webinars or challenges or sales tools will go here. 

Your Year In Colour…

Now, once that’s all in, you’ve essentially got all of your sales and marketing efforts for the year into one spot, pretty cool right?

To be ready to grow next year, it’s time to be able to see at a glance which pieces are working and are worth your time and energy, and which ones aren’t… 

5. So, to do that, the next step is to go through and click on each cell with an item in it and colour that cell either red, yellow or green. 

Red = Not working at all.

Yellow = OK, needs improvement.

Green = Worked really well.

Reviewing The Data…

Once that’s all filled out, you’ll most likely have a few things in each colour. 

Ultimately, the goal is to have at least 1 green in each row (or category). 

So you want to have at least ONE:

  • Offer that works really well and your clients love. 
  • Opt-in that attracts great clients and grows your list. 
  • Platform that you can promote your opt-in to, to get your clients onto your list and one day your offer. 
  • Promotion that you can use again and again in your marketing. 

So, if right now as you look at your spreadsheet, if all of your offers are red, your number one priority will be moving one offer into yellow and then into green. 

Or maybe all of your opt-ins are stuck in yellow, but you have a green offer. Then your next goal would be to look at that offer that’s working well and figure out what’s going to be the best possible opt-in for that green offer. 

Do you see how this works? It’s so simple but so great for cutting through the crap and placing our energy where we need to. 

Finding Your Focus For Next Year…

This exercise is great as an end of year ritual because it’s powerful but SO simple. But it’s also amazing to do any time of year. Any time you feel like you have too many things you want to focus on at once, this tool can help you get grounded and find your focus. 

Focused, simple action is what gets momentum.
