#83 Q: Stuck at $100k + can't scale, help me, Kate!

Last week we talked about why so many people hustle their butts off and never hit 6 figures… 

So now let’s talk about the next roadblock where we see people get stuck at: The low $100-300K level. 

I even got stuck here myself for way too long with a previous business. It’s a weird place to be because you have some success, in fact, you’re probably earning more than you ever have before…

…But you are definitely not working the laptop life, and it often feels really uncertain and unstable.

Plus you want to grow, but things keep falling flat, right? 

You have lots of puzzle pieces… but you don’t know how to put the puzzle together.

And that’s what we’re going to give you today. The missing pieces.

#1: No focus…

Usually, to get to this kind of level of revenue, you’ve probably created a bunch of different offers. There might be a 1:1 offer, a couple of group programs and so on. You might even be a bit reactive to your audience, so when they ask for something, you go and create it. So there’s probably a lot going on and quite a few pots on the boil, so to speak. 

And to get the momentum that you’re after, I’d recommend that for the next 6-12 months you just get hyper-focused and go all in on just one offer. (1-2 max, but 1 is best.)

Go through your data, find the offer that’s the best fit for both you and your audience. The one that screams the most ‘Hells yes!’ for both of you. (And for anyone who hasn’t gone through our programs, or hasn’t been in 6-Figure School, a ‘Hells yes!’ offer is one that’s an easy yes for your client and it’s also both easy and profitable for you to sell as well.)

So just take some time to think about what’s going to be your signature offer? What do you want to be known for? 

It doesn’t mean you won’t have other offers later on or that you can’t bundle up your other offers or use them as bonuses etc, you absolutely can!

But to get the momentum to scale and grow, you need to have this committed focus.

It allows you to refine, and continue to get better. But it also means that you are sticking your flag in the ground and saying, ‘This is me. This is what I’m an expert in. This is what you come to me for.

So it becomes so clear for your audience, because as you lean in on one thing, you’ll get better at your messaging and also your audience hears about it more. 

And in a noisy world? They need that level of trust and clarity in how you can help them. 

#2: No plan to scale…profitably. 

Ok! So once you’ve figured out what your signature offer is going to be…

…your 2nd step is that you need a plan to scale. 

And spoiler alert: “spend money on ads” is not a scaling plan. 

Now, I go into the real nuts and bolts of this one in the episode, so give that a listen for more details behind how and why all of this works, but essentially… Ads just get MORE expensive over time if you don’t have the right plan in place. 

In fact, you might start spending more, and ending up actually selling LESS!

So you need a scaling strategy that’s more than just spending money on ads. We actually go into this in a lot of detail inside 6-Figure School, and I break it down for you and show you some of the different options and what might be suitable for different types of offers, markets, funnels, price points and launches…

Because there’s just no one-size-fits-all here. It’s got to be customised and done in a way that you can continue to grow well beyond what your current goals are. And this applies even if your goals aren’t revenue motivated, maybe you’re more excited about reaching more people, if your business isn’t getting money back in, you can’t invest in it to get it in front of more people. So you still need a scaling plan that’s profitable, even if revenue isn’t your main objective. 

#3: No systems + automations

Because I am a systems and automations nerd, this is of course one of my favourites… 

At this point in your business, (up to about $100k a year) you’ve probably been able to get by without too many systems and automations in place. You’ve probably even been doing most things by yourself. 

But you’ve reached a point where you’re running out of energy and time. There’s just not enough hours in the day. 

Now is the time to systemize and automate as much as you can. 

Particularly in these three key areas:

  1. Your delivery.
    For onboarding, every touchpoint, and every way that you interact with your client should all be systemized and preferably automated if possible. This way if you suddenly have 100 people join your program overnight, your onboarding needs to be streamlined and effortless so you’ll be able to serve them all well.
  2. Your sales
    This includes funnels as well as rinse + repeat launches. (I go into this more in the episode, so give that a listen for the real gold dust.) Rinse + repeat launches enable you to launch more often, which helps generate momentum, while your sales funnels are still running in the background.
  3. Your marketing 

This includes for your lead generation, how you get new people across the door. This is actually one of the things I love helping people do inside our eCourse Empire program, helping people find a rhythm in their marketing calendar that will work for them. I’m all about helping them make it as systemised and stress-free as humanly possible!  

If you are really wanting to grow, it’s very hard to grow if you don’t have systems in place for these three areas. You don’t need to do them all at once. But it’s something you need to focus on or you’re going to get stuck. 

#4: No team 

The final piece! You need people on the bus with you. You can’t get to the next level alone… 

To get to this point, you’ve probably either completely done it all yourself, or you’ve just hired contractors here and there. 

To keep growing beyond this point, you need a dedicated team who are emotionally invested in your business. Contractors coming and going aren’t going to cut it. 

They don’t need to be full-timers, but they need to be spending enough hours in your business that they know what’s going on and they can see the bigger picture. Because of this, they’ll really feel like they’re “on the bus” with you. They’re invested in your business. 

Not just people that clock in, tick a box and leave. You want to find people that are going to start taking a bit of ownership. 

It’s the kind of team that are going to become a real asset to your business as you grow. 

At this point, I’d recommend hiring less people for more hours than lots of people with a few hours each, because they’re just not going to be able to have that level of investment you’re looking for. 

(And that’s why getting those systems and automations in place is so important because it’s going to help you to get that person and help to set all that up!)
