Because we’ve all heard the saying, the riches are in the niches, right?
Basically that means the more specialised you can be… the better your knowledge and skills will become…the more dialled in your systems and offers…the better and faster the results you’ll get… the easier to attract new dream clients…
And then…(drum roll please)…the more you are valued and the more you can charge.
It’s just how it works.
You can try to be “kinda” good at everything, and always charge “kinda good” prices. Or you can get REALLY FREAKING AMAZING at one or two specific things.
And never has this been more true, than when offering services… particularly services as varied as creating funnels.
So how exactly should you (and even could you?) niche down?
Well, in just a moment I’m going to walk you through 3 ways you can niche down to level up your VA or OBM business by using funnels!

Way to niche #1: Tools
So this one may be a little controversial, but I know it to be very true.
Especially at the start.
To really be able to uplevel your funnel skills (and therefore offers) as quickly as possible, you need to be able to focus on really learning all the ins and outs of just a handful of tech platforms and tools. NOT ALL OF THEM.
People do not pay top dollar for a Jack of all trades remember (you already tried that).
They want someone who knows everything there is to know about the funnels they are building, who can make the whole process as easy as possible, and who will give really great advice.
To do that, you need to focus on mastering just a few of the top tools, not all of them.
So which ones do you choose?
Well, I think most automation or funnel tools fall into 3 categories.
1 – So first up, there are the “Beginner BFF tools”, like:
We don’t recommend specialising in any of these tools as a Funnel Pro, as usually business owners who use these tools are in the beginner phases of business, and are more interested in DIYing their marketing setup (or at least paying very little for it if they do outsource!).
They (the tools) are also very limited in what they can do, and any funnels you build using these tools will require a LOT of behind the scenes digital Band Aids and sticky tape (metaphorically) which is never a good idea.
2 – Then there are the “Workhorse tools”, like
The pricing and features of these tools means that the bulk of online entrepreneurs either can or do use them, so there is a lot of opportunity to find new clients.
Plus they offer some of the best in market features as well, and have everything you’ll need to create 6, 7 even 8-figure funnels.
They are also usually fairly intuitive to use, and *usually* have great customer service, so choosing to start by learning a handful of these tools first is a great way to break your teeth in the funnels and automations world (and then you’ll find often a lot of the functions or methodologies you learn with these systems will translate to other systems in the future if you need).
We would recommend choosing 1 or 2 (Active Campaign and Convertkit are the best) and starting with those.
3 – Then there are the “Dinosaur… ahem I mean…Dynasty tools”, like:
These are renowned for being overly complicated and overpriced… AND super buggy with terrible support.
But for some reason many leaders in the online business world have built their whole businesses on them (particularly those with either multiple 7-figure if not 8-figure businesses).
We do NOT recommend you start with these as the learning curve is STEEP and the target market will most likely already have someone on their team who looks after this for them, or if not, they will be expecting someone with lots of experience in these platforms, so again not the best place to start.
BONUS – The “New Kids on The Block” tools
Yep, there seem to be some new, cool automation software released every other week.
But they are usually still working out lots of kinks (it normally takes at least 2 years for software to be even remotely reliable) so we don’t recommend you start by learning those yet either.
Way to niche #2: Clients
So the second place you can really niche down to therefore stand out in the market, is to niche down on the types of clients you serve.
This will serve you really well in any online marketing space because often clients with similar niches will be looking for similar outcomes (and funnels), and they will have similar expectations of costs and delivery.
This is great for three reasons.
Firstly, it lets you systemise like a champ (Hello templates!), so that you can really deliver an amazing experience that runs like clockwork for your clients (and you).
Secondly, it will help with creating your offers, packages and marketing materials, if they are aimed at a similar group of people.
And thirdly, remember word of mouth will be one of your biggest drivers of new clients, and funnily enough business owners tend to hang out with other similar business owners, so it will make referrals easy!
And it doesn’t have to be TOO crazy or restrictive.
Maybe you want to target coaches, or female entrepreneurs, or businesses in the health space.
Just making that one simple distinction that narrows your offerings down from “everything for everyone” to “certain things for certain people” can and will automatically help your business become more “Pro”.
Way to niche #3: Funnels
This is more of an advanced option and not for something to start with. It’s just another way you can really stake your claim on one corner of the market and make it count. You can do this by becoming known as the “go to” for a certain type of funnel as well.
Maybe you’ll be the Lead generation funnels expert, or you can become the expert on Webinar funnels or Self Liquidating Offers.
This is probably something that will develop over time (as can the niche that you target), as you find yourself doing more and more of one type of funnel.
But it’s good to have it in the back of your mind that this can be an amazing way to really grow your business. By going deep and becoming the best in the biz at one sort of funnel or automation.
This is kind of a way to uplevel your uplevel as a Funnel Pro.
